The slave bracelet trend is spreading like wildfire and fashionistas everywhere are embracing this bohemian style. While these modern vintage hand embellishments are available at some ahead-of-the-game retailers, you can be trendy, thrifty and truly unique if you make your own! For this slave bracelet bracelet DIY, I used parts bought at Hobby Lobby mixed with old chains from a vintage necklace. I chose antique gold because it matched the vintage parts and because this finish enhances the bohemian feel. The result is a $4 beauty that is one of a kind! All you need are chains, small rings, lobster clasps or some other closure and needle nose pliers (with cutting edge). I like to keep these supplies on hand so I can always quickly upcycle jewelry that is broken or get creative with a vintage piece on the fly. If you want an embellishment for the top of your hand like mine, you will also need a pendant or bead of some sort that you can attach from 3 angles. One side will connect to the ring chain and one for each side of your wrist chain. I found it hard to find pendants I could attach this way which were also flat. I ended up going with a flat gold square medallion piece because it could be attached from several angles. You may have to adjust your measurements based on the size of your wrist but to help get you started, mine are diagrammed in the picture below.
You will want this to fit securely so the ring chain will not dangle down, but you also need to make sure you can make a fist and close your hand without stressing the chains too much. This is a super easy DIY jewelry project and can probably be made with supplies you have on hand. I bet you have a pile of old necklaces and bracelets just begging to be transformed. Come on...I can't be alone in my addiction to vintage jewelry and saving broken accessories!
