This DIY fashion project involves a denim chambray top which is a must have for any wardrobe! Upcycling this vintage denim button up was done using nothing more than scissors, bleach, sandpaper, new buttons, needle and thread, and of course..time. First, I gave it a trendy high-low hemline to modernize the look. Next, I measured and cut out the shoulders to add a flirty touch. I cut the tips of the collar and top of the pocket off for more fun detail. Next, I carefully painted on diluted bleach with a paintbrush (a bleach pen would work too!). I bleached out the bottom hem, the shoulder openings, the pocket and the collar tips. I used coarse sandpaper to rough up all the bleached edges to give it this upcycled vintage shirt a distressed, bohemian style. Finally, I made it great for summer 2013 by replacing the old buttons (and a missing one) with some awesome nautical anchor buttons. Voila, the perfect summer shirt that will coordinate with this season's bright colored and patterned bottoms!
